Crisp and vibrant bell peppers are a versatile ingredient, perfect for adding color and crunch to salads, stir-fries, and roasted dishes. Proper storage ensures these garden gems maintain their peak freshness and delightful texture for your culinary creations.
Storage Time
Bell peppers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks when kept whole and unwashed. Once cut, their shelf life reduces to about 3-5 days.
Temperature
Store fresh bell peppers in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator, ideally between 7-10°C (45-50°F) for optimal longevity.
Freezing
Bell peppers freeze exceptionally well, making them a convenient option for future use. Wash, core, seed, and chop them into desired sizes before freezing. Spread the pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, then transfer to airtight freezer bags or containers. Frozen peppers are best used in cooked dishes like soups, stews, or sauces, as their texture will soften upon thawing. Thaw them overnight in the refrigerator or use directly from frozen in cooking.
Signs of Spoilage
