Storage Time
3–4 days at room temperature, 5–7 days in the refrigerator, up to 3 months in the freezer.
Temperature
Store at room temperature (18-22°C) if consuming within 1-2 days, or refrigerate (0-4°C) for longer shelf life.
Freezing
Homemade cornbread freezes beautifully! Allow the cornbread to cool completely, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap followed by a layer of aluminum foil or place it in a freezer-safe airtight container. To thaw, unwrap and let it come to room temperature on the counter for a few hours, or gently reheat slices in a low oven (150°C/300°F) for about 10-15 minutes until warmed through. Freezing may slightly alter the texture, making it a bit softer upon thawing.
Signs of Spoilage
- A sour or moldy smell emanating from the cornbread.
- Visible fuzzy mold growth, which can appear in various colors like green, white, or black.
- A slimy or sticky texture on the surface, indicating bacterial contamination.
