Enjoy your delicious homemade pizza for longer by storing it correctly. Proper refrigeration and freezing techniques ensure optimal flavor and safety for this beloved comfort food.
Storage Time
3–4 days in the refrigerator, up to 2–3 months in the freezer for best quality.
Temperature
Store refrigerated pizza at or below 4°C (40°F).
Freezing
Homemade pizza freezes exceptionally well. Allow the pizza to cool completely before wrapping individual slices or the entire pie tightly in plastic wrap, followed by a layer of aluminum foil or a freezer-safe bag to prevent freezer burn. To thaw, place frozen slices in the refrigerator overnight or reheat directly from frozen in an oven or toaster oven at a moderate temperature (around 175°C/350°F) until heated through. Freezing may slightly alter the crust's texture, making it a bit softer upon reheating.
Signs of Spoilage
- A sour or off smell, distinct from the usual pizza aroma.
- Visible mold growth, which can appear as fuzzy spots of various colors (green, white, black).
- Slimy or sticky texture on the crust or toppings, indicating bacterial proliferation.
