Store your uncooked rigatoni pasta in a cool, dry pantry to maintain its ideal texture and prevent spoilage. This versatile tube-shaped pasta is perfect for hearty sauces and baked dishes, making it a pantry staple for delicious Italian-inspired meals.
Storage Time
Uncooked rigatoni pasta can last indefinitely in the pantry if stored properly, though quality may slightly diminish after 2 years. Cooked rigatoni pasta will last 3–4 days in the refrigerator.
Temperature
Store uncooked rigatoni pasta in a cool, dry place, ideally between 15-20°C (59-68°F). Refrigerate cooked rigatoni pasta at 0–4°C (32–40°F).
Freezing
Uncooked rigatoni pasta freezes exceptionally well, maintaining its texture for up to 1 year. For best results, place dry pasta in an airtight freezer bag or container, removing as much air as possible. To use, you can often cook it directly from frozen, though it may require a slightly longer cooking time. Cooked rigatoni pasta can also be frozen for up to 2–3 months, though the texture may become slightly softer upon thawing. Thaw frozen cooked pasta in the refrigerator overnight or gently reheat in a saucepan with a little liquid.
Signs of Spoilage
- Presence of mold or discoloration on the dry pasta.
- A stale or musty odor emanating from the pasta.
- Cooked pasta developing a slimy texture or sour smell.
