Stromboli is a savory turnover filled with various Italian cheeses, cured meats like salami and pepperoni, and vegetables. This delicious baked good is perfect for a quick meal or appetizer, but proper storage is key to maintaining its quality and preventing foodborne illness.
Storage Time
1–2 days in the refrigerator, up to 2–3 months in the freezer.
Temperature
Keep refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Freezing
To freeze stromboli, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, then in aluminum foil or place it in a freezer-safe bag to prevent freezer burn. For best results, slice the stromboli before freezing for easier portioning. When ready to eat, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or bake directly from frozen, adding extra cooking time. Note that freezing may slightly alter the texture of the crust.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off-putting smell
- Slimy or sticky texture on the crust or filling
