Slowly cooked to a deep golden-brown sweetness, caramelized onions are a versatile ingredient that adds rich flavor to countless dishes. Properly stored, these sweet gems can elevate everything from burgers and pizzas to soups and dips.
Storage Time
3–4 days in the refrigerator, up to 3 months in the freezer
Temperature
Store refrigerated at or below 4°C (40°F)
Freezing
Caramelized onions freeze exceptionally well, retaining much of their delightful flavor and texture. Allow them to cool completely, then portion into airtight containers or freezer bags, removing as much air as possible. To thaw, transfer to the refrigerator overnight or gently reheat from frozen in a skillet over low heat. Freezing may slightly alter the texture, making them a bit softer, but the flavor remains robust.
Signs of Spoilage
