Unlock the rich, savory essence of homemade broth, a versatile culinary foundation perfect for soups, stews, sauces, and risottos. Properly stored, this flavorful liquid can elevate your cooking for days or even months, minimizing food waste and maximizing taste.
Storage Time
3–4 days in the refrigerator, up to 6 months in the freezer.
Temperature
Keep refrigerated at or below 4°C (40°F). For longer storage, freezing is recommended.
Freezing
Homemade broth freezes beautifully! Allow the broth to cool completely before transferring it to airtight containers, freezer bags, or ice cube trays for portion control. Leave some headspace in containers as liquids expand when frozen. To thaw, transfer frozen broth to the refrigerator overnight or gently reheat it on the stovetop. Frozen broth may experience a slight textural change upon thawing, but its flavor remains excellent for cooking.
Signs of Spoilage
- A sour or off odor, distinct from its usual savory aroma.
- Cloudiness or visible mold growth on the surface.
- A slimy or viscous texture when stirred.
