Penne rigate pasta, with its signature ridged tubes, is a versatile pantry staple perfect for holding onto rich sauces. Store this dried pasta properly to ensure its quality and extend its shelf life for countless delicious meals.
Storage Time
Unopened, penne rigate pasta can last indefinitely in the pantry, though quality is best within 1-2 years. Once cooked, store in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
Temperature
Store dry pasta in a cool, dry place, ideally between 15-20°C (59-68°F). Cooked pasta should be refrigerated at 0-4°C (32-40°F).
Freezing
Cooked penne rigate pasta freezes exceptionally well. Allow cooked pasta to cool completely, then portion it into airtight containers or freezer bags, removing as much air as possible. Frozen cooked pasta can be enjoyed for up to 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator or gently reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop. Note that texture may soften slightly after freezing and thawing.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth on dry pasta.
- An off, musty, or rancid smell from dry pasta.
- Cooked pasta becoming excessively slimy or developing a sour odor.
