Fresh baby carrots, also known as "baby" or "mini" carrots, are young, tender root vegetables perfect for snacking, salads, and cooking. Their sweet flavor and crisp texture make them a versatile addition to any meal.
Storage Time
Baby carrots typically last for 2-3 weeks when stored properly in the refrigerator. Once opened, consume within 1 week for optimal freshness.
Temperature
Store baby carrots in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator, ideally between 0-4°C (32-40°F), to maintain their crispness and prevent spoilage.
Freezing
Baby carrots can be frozen for long-term storage, though their texture may become softer upon thawing. For best results, blanch baby carrots in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then immediately plunge them into ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain thoroughly, pat dry, and store in airtight freezer bags or containers. Thaw frozen carrots in the refrigerator or use them directly in cooked dishes.
Signs of Spoilage
- Slimy or mushy texture
- Dark spots or mold growth
- Unpleasant, sour odor
